On Saturday, September 19th the UF Health Florida Recovery Center (FRC) held their 11th Annual FRC reunion at the Paramount Plaza Hotel in Gainesville, Florida. The FRC annual reunion provides an opportunity for alumni of the program to return to Gainesville to celebrate their recovery and reconnect with alumni and staff from the Florida Recovery Center.
The UF Health Florida Recovery Center is an addiction treatment facility located in Gainesville, Florida. FRC specialists have an intimate understanding of substance abuse and recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism. Many of the doctors, therapists, counselors and representatives at UF Health Florida Recovery Center are in recovery from drug addiction or alcohol addiction. This allows the specialists to connect with patients on a personal level to provide individualized treatment for the success of the patient on their journey through recovery.
This year’s reunion was well attended with over 300 alumni, family, friends and staff in attendance from ten different states, some traveling from as far away as California.
Dr. Scott Teitelbaum, Medical Director of UF Health Florida Recovery Center spoke to the crowd about keeping hope alive in recovery. This message was mirrored by the tremendous attendance at this year’s reunion.
In addition to Dr. Teitelbuam’s address to alumni and staff, two members of the FRC team were recognized for their valuable service over the years. David Harvey, CAP was recognized for his decade of service to UF Health as a certified addictions professional. Tom Sledd, a counselor and interventionist, was also recognized for his service and involvement in the 12-step program for the past 35 years. Sledd’s work has reached members over several different states thought out the years.
“There is no better feeling to see firsthand the positive impact we have held in the lives of those we treat; how they have restored their lives and mended family and professional relationships. Their success and gratitude for FRC drives our important mission. It was a wonderful event,” Scott Teitelbaum, MD.
The success of this event is a testament to the treatment programs and providers at the Florida Recovery Center and an inspiration to patients in the program.
