On Feb. 7, Dr. Ronald V. Mejzak represented the Florida Society of Addiction Medicine (FSAM) at a roundtable discussion on insurance coverage parity for mental health and substance use disorder hosted by State Representative Emily Slosberg. Dr. Mejzak opened his remarks by thanking Representative Slosberg and Senator Rouson for their introduction of HB939, which would strengthen federal parity law enforcement in Florida.
Dr. Mejzak then emphasized the difficulties faced by addiction treatment professionals who struggle to receive reimbursement from various insurance plans. He continued by explaining the importance of increasing transparency around the formation of medical necessity criteria by insurance providers, and he concluded by expressing FSAM’s continuing commitment to working with Representative Slosberg, Senator Rouson and other stakeholders to strengthen parity enforcement in the state of Florida.
