Physicians & Health Professionals

Helping those in safety-sensitive professions

We take great pride in our proven ability to help physicians, dentists, pharmacists and nurses all over the United States overcome addiction and return to successful careers. The UF Health Florida Recovery Center has earned their trust as the hub for national addiction experts in research and evidence-based treatment. Our approach shows over a five-year period that more than 80% of impaired professionals in our care succeeded in recovery and returned to work.

Led by Medical Director Scott Teitelbaum, MD, our treatment team achieves this by working with employers, licensing boards, health care-specific attorneys and physician health programs from all over the country to help these professionals get back to thriving in their respective roles. We provide an ideal environment for recovery behind a unique blend of ongoing, effective therapies in a private, comfortable setting. This solace is also found through integration in the large, local professional recovery community.

Our team works closely with professional referral programs, peer assistance and licensing boards to formulate discharge plans, continued care and monitoring. As the point of contact between all parties, the staff at UF Health Florida Recovery Center helps make this process more efficient and effective. Having over 20 years of experience in treating safety sensitive professionals, our staff know the ins and outs of specific program needs for each monitoring agency.

The professionals program will consist of being assigned to a therapist that is designated solely for other professional patients. We believe that being a professional in treatment adds a unique layer of shame that must be worked through. At the Florida Recovery Center, we provide a setting of comfort and safety, allowing a professional to discuss sensitive topics involving past behaviors and future concerns. Professional patients will also attend specific groups that are broken down into monitored professionals by gender, and even by specific profession. This environment provides people the space to be vulnerable and relate to others that have gone through the same life events.
