What to Bring – Inpatient

When preparing for your stay at UF Health Psychiatric Hospital, consider bringing the following:

  • Five changes of clothes and underwear (Detergent and a washer and dryer to use at no charge.)
  • A sweater or wrap (Some of the meeting rooms are cool.)
  • A pair of walking shoes.
  • Hair dryers, electric razors, shampoo and other health and beauty aids
  • List of medications and dosages
  • A long-distance calling card
  • A clock without a radio, CD or tape player

Items that are not permitted at Shands Vista include:

  •  Alcoholic beverages
  • Any products made with ETOH (mouthwash, hairspray, etc.)
  • Illicit drugs
  • Drugs not authorized by the attending physician – both prescription and over the counter
  • Aerosol products
  • Toxic substances (bleach, cleaners)
  • Weapons (or any items that can be used as weapons)
  • Cell phones and cell phone chargers
  • Computers, cameras, pagers
  • DVDs, VHS tapes, TVs
  • Personal CDs, radios, iPods, MP3 players or audio tapes
  • Stuffed animals
  • Picture frames with glass
  • Any glass items
  • Drawing/art/craft supplies
  • Unauthorized or non-spiritual reading materials
  • Tank tops, short shorts, midriff tops
  • Food, beverages, candy, gum
  • Candles/incense
  • Valuables. Patients are not permitted to keep more than $20 at a time.

Patients may bring the following items, but must store such items at the nurses’ station:

  • Electric and/or handheld razors
  • Hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons
  • CD/Tape players, iPods, MP3 players and music approved by staff
  • Mirrors
  • Laundry detergent
  • Hair spray, mousse
  • Perfumes/colognes
  • Nail polish/nail polish remover
  • Nail clippers, scissors
