Attorneys, Judges & Legal Professionals

Nationally known for excellence

Judges, attorneys and other legal professionals are gaining more attention for becoming a high-risk group to abuse alcohol and other substances. Whether due to the socialization aspect within the profession, the hours spent studying or preparing cases, or even the personality styling of those who enter the legal profession, studies show a higher rate of substance use disorders in lawyers compared to the national average.

When attorneys, judges, other legal professionals and law students need help overcoming addiction, they turn to the UF Health Florida Recovery Center. We have earned their trust as the hub for national addiction experts in research and evidence-based treatment. Our approach shows over a five-year period that more than 80% of impaired professionals in our care succeeded in recovery and returned to work.

Led by Medical Director Scott Teitelbaum, MD, our treatment team achieves this by working with employers, Bar Associations, and Judges and Lawyers Assistance Programs from all over the country to help professionals return to successful careers. Every state advocacy program has different requirements and expectations. With the experience and knowledge our team has, we tailor treatment needs to best support individual needs and anticipatory guidance unique to each patient.
